The Housing Authority of Maricopa County (HAMC) utilizes two (2) core housing options to provide viable housing options within Maricopa County:  Rental Assistance and Property Management.  Each core housing option has a menu of potential housing solutions that are managed by specific HAMC departments.

The Housing Authority of Maricopa County (HAMC) owns and manages over 700 affordable units in over 17 communities within Maricopa County.

Rental Assistance Programs

Program is available through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Through EHV, HUD is providing 70,000 housing choice vouchers to local Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) in order to assist individuals and families who are homeless, at-risk of homelessness, fleeing, or attempting to flee, domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or human trafficking, or were recently homeless or have a high risk of housing instability

This is a referral based rental assistance program.

A program under which Housing Choice Vouchers (HCVs) are provided to two different populations: 

  1. Families for whom the lack of adequate housing is a primary factor in: A.)   The imminent placement of the family’s child or children in out-of-home care, or B.)  The delay in the discharge of the child or children to the family from out-of-home care.  There is no time limitation on FUP family vouchers. 
  2. For a period not to exceed 36 months, otherwise eligible youths who have attained at least 18 years and not more than 24 years of age and who have left foster care, or will leave foster care within 90 days, in accordance with a transition plan described in section 475(5)(H) of the Social Security Act, and is homeless or is at risk of becoming homeless at age 16 or older.

This is a referral based rental assistance program.

A tenant-based rental assistance program that allows very low-income families to choose and lease safe, decent, and affordable privately-owned rental housing.  The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

Housing choice vouchers are administered locally by public housing agencies (PHAs). The PHAs receive federal funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to administer the voucher program. 

Additional HCV Information 

Combines HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). VA provides these services for participating Veterans at VA medical centers (VAMCs), community-based outreach clinics (CBOCs), through VA contractors, or through other VA designated entities.

This is a referral based rental assistance program.

Rental Assistance Program to assist households that include a non-elderly person(s) with disabilities, defined as any family that includes a person with disabilities who is at least 18 years old and not yet 62 years old at the effective date of the initial Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) Contract.

Additional Mainstream Voucher Information 

This is a referral based rental assistance program.

A site-based rental assistance program where the participant pays no more than 30% of the family’s income towards rent and the Public Housing Authority (PHA) will subsidize the remainder.  Generally, participants do not have the right to move with a tenant-based voucher and consequently cannot move to a new location without giving up their assistance.

MAINTAINING YOUR STATUS ON THE WAITLIST

If you are added to the waitlist you will be notified by mail when your name comes to the top of the list or if we are updating our files. If you do not respond to our notifications, requests for information, or if your letter is returned from the U.S. Postal Service, your name will be removed from the waitlist.

Faster service, please go the customer portals page, select the appropriate Affordable Property and/or HCV Rental Assistance portal link. Register if necessary, login and check your waiting list status. For the HCV Rental Assistance programs select the link at the top of the portal home page labeled ‘Applicant Portal’. Once logged in one may check waiting list status, reply to future ‘Save My Spot’ inquires, and when pulled from the waitlist, complete the formal application (‘Certification for Intake’) process online.
