When is the waiting list going to open? |
The Housing Authority of Maricopa County of will be accepting waitlist applications for the Housing Authority of Maricopa County Rose Terrace and Maricopa Revitalization Partnership (MRP) Project Base Voucher Waitlist – Wednesday, August 10, 2022 @ 8:00 a.m. (PST) Through Tuesday, August 30th, 2022 @ 8:00 a.m. (PST). Depending on the volume of applications received the closing date may be extended*. Applications will be accepted online through the Rental Assistance Programs Rent Cafe Applicant Portal. |
Where do I apply? |
Apply on the Housing Authority of Maricopa County’s PHA Applicant portal at https://portal.maricopahousing.org Registration is required, and applicants must login to apply. The application will only be available during the waitlist opening. Paper applications will not be accepted; however, if you require special assistance with the application process or you do not have internet access, you may contact the waitlist helpline Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM at 602-744-(inactive – waitlist closed). If you require phone-based assistance outside of the helpline hours, you must contact HAMC at least 48 hours in advance to make a call-in appointment. The waitlist helpline will not be active before or after the waitlist opening closes. |
How do I apply? |
You can use a personal computer, public computer, tablet or your smart phone with internet to access the waitlist interest application. See the Public Notice for a list of public computers. If you require special assistance with the application process or you do not have internet access, you may contact the waitlist helpline Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM at 602-744-(inactive – waitlist closed). If you require phone-based assistance outside of the helpline hours, you must contact HAMC at least 48 hours in advance to make a call-in appointment. I am elderly, or disabled, or I have limited English proficiency and require accommodation. |

After I apply, why does it take so long to receive assistance? |
The Housing Authority is not able to pull names from the wait list until a project based voucher unit becomes available. Wait time depends on unit availability. Applicants when selected from a waitlist are invited to complete a formal application to determine eligibility for the program. |
What if I don’t have a computer? |
Applications can be completed on any computer, tablet, or smartphone with Internet access. Public computers are not available at either Housing Authority offices, however, a number of public computers are available for your use. Refer to the Public Notice for a list of locations throughout the Valley for free computer access. If you require special assistance with the application process or you do not have internet access, you may contact the waitlist helpline Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM at 602-744-(inactive – waitlist closed). If you require phone-based assistance outside of the helpline hours, you must contact HAMC at least 48 hours in advance to make a call-in appointment. Is there a separate waitlist for veterans, elderly, or disabled persons? |
No. All PBV wait lists are stratified by unit size lists and applicants household size must meet the occupancy standards for the available unit sizes. Applicants not eligible for a unit size based on occupancy standards will have to reapply for assistance at another time. See the occupancy standards table. |
What will the process consist of when applying? Do I need to print anything? |
Once you submit an application the Rent Cafe PHA Applicant portal will automatically email a confirmation message about your submission to the email address you used when registering for the portal. You may choose to print the confirmation of submission. |
Can I fill out a paper application? |
Paper applications are not available. Applications for the waitlist can be done online or by telephone. If you require special assistance with the application process or you do not have internet access, you may contact the waitlist helpline Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM at 602-744-(inactive – waitlist closed). If you require phone-based assistance outside of the helpline hours, you must contact HAMC at least 48 hours in advance to make a call-in appointment. How long will the waiting list be open? |
21 days. Waitlist applications will be accepted Wednesday, August 10, 2022 @ 8:00 a.m. (PST) Through Tuesday, August 30th, 2022 @ 8:00 a.m. (PST). Depending on the volume of applications received the closing date may be extended**. |
If I have a felony will that automatically make me ineligible? What about any criminal activity? |
No, a felony does not automatically make you ineligible for housing authority programs. You may still be eligible for the program depending on type of conviction and how long ago it took place. Those who have to register as a sex offender are not eligible. |
Is there going to be anyone available to help fill out the application? |
If you have technical questions, general waitlist application issues, or do not have internet access, a help desk representative is available by calling 602-744-(inactive – waitlist closed). The representative you will speak to is only able to assist with the online application. The representative will not be able to answer program or eligibility questions or other housing related questions. What do I need to have when I apply? |
Full names, social security numbers (if applicable), birth dates of ALLL household members, and the household GROSS income (all sources and for all family members). If a family member does not have a social security number, you may enter 999-99-9999. |
Do you have to be a citizen (legal) to apply? |
Anyone can apply, but someone in your household must have legal residency. This will be confirmed when your name is pulled from waitlist. |
What do I do if I don’t have transportation? |
If you need transportation trip planning assistance, please contact Valley Metro at 602-253-500, TTY 602-251-2039, or http://www.valleymetro.org/. Dial-a-Ride offers different types of services depending on the city or town in which you live. To find out what type of service exists in your city, call 602-716-2100 for assistance. |
How will I know I am on the waitlist? |
Notification of waitlist status will be sent to the applicant in writing by US Mail and to the applicants Rent Cafe registered email address. You may also login to Rent Cafe PHA to check your waiting list status.
The Housing Authority of Maricopa County will review applications to confirm occupancy eligibility and will then notify those who are ineligibles. Applicants must add all household members to the application before submitting. The applicant portal allows those added to a waitlist to (1) check waiting list status, (2) reply to future ‘Save My Spot’ inquires, and (3) when pulled from the waitlist complete the formal application (‘Certification for Intake’) process online. Applicants not eligible based on occupancy standards will have to reapply for assistance at another time. |
How do I stay on the waitlist? |
Once placed on the a wailtlist, applicants must notify the Housing Authority of any and all address changes. Finally, while on the waitlist, applicants must respond to all correspondence received from the Housing Authority by stated deadlines or you will be removed from the waiting list. |

Based upon houses hold size, Online Applications take around 45 minutes to complete. A valid email address is required to complete the online waiting list application. An email address can be obtained at no charge from the following Vendors: Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail. No printing is required. Ensure that you have all application related information for all household members, including but not limited to income, assets, and vital records. |

How do I stay on the waitlist? |
Application updates are required every 60 days after applying to remain on the waiting list. If there are no application changes or updates, the applicant must check “no changes and provide an application date stamp. Failure to provide an application update every 60 days will result in the automatic removal of the Wait List application. |
