Housing Authority of Maricopa County (HAMC) Housing Choice Voucher Waitlist Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
When is the wait list going to open?
8:00 AM Tuesday, July 25, 2023 – 8:00 AM Friday, August 25, 2023
What type of waiting list is opening?
“Random Lottery Style Placement” for the Housing Choice Voucher Program Wait List
What does “Random Lottery Style Placement” mean?
A random “lottery” style placement means:
•At the close of the wait list opening period, HAMC conducts a random electronic lottery.
•Each pre-application is assigned a number and a computer program randomly selects the lottery winners, that is, the number of
applicants to which HAMC estimates will be able to provide assistance within the next twelve months.
When HAMC conducts a lottery, all pre-applications in the lottery pool have an equal chance of being selected. During the pre-application
process, application date and time and any “local preference” for which you might, eventually, be eligible for do not help or hurt your
odds of being selected in a lottery. Only the total number of applicants in the lottery pool impacts your chance of being selected for
placement on the 2023 HCV Wait List. No pre-application has a better chance of being selected than another.
