Pursuant to A.R.S. Section 36-1404, Maricopa County delegated powers and
responsibilities to the Housing Authority of Maricopa County (HAMC) to
provide affordable housing through a range of delegated powers. In
addition, the County appoints seven commissioners to serve as the
governing board of HAMC. The Board of Commissioners selects an
Executive Director/Secretary to provide general supervision over the
overall administration of the business and affairs of the Authority.
The Housing Authority of Maricopa County is an active partner with
county, local, state and federal agencies and programs, as well as the
broader public and private sectors, to carry out its mission and
strategies in meeting a wide range of affordable housing needs
throughout Maricopa County.
Note: While reviewing files, an old 25-page typed document containing
the History of the Housing Authority of
Maricopa County was found. Because of its historical content, it
was decided to scan and post that document to this website. It is a
narrative summary of the minutes of the Board of Commissioners from
1942 until 1991, written by some unknown staff member 20 years ago.
