To better serve our clients starting Friday, October 5th, 2012 Section 8 Housing Specialists located at 2024 N. 7th Street in Phoenix, AZ each Friday will be "In Service". Housing Specialists are happy to take appointments or see walk ins Monday through Thursday, however on Fridays the office will be open to drop off paperwork only.

Many HAMC residents and clients may be eligible for a reduced rate on their cellphone bill under the Federal Communication Commission's (FCC) Lifeline program. For more information on this program, go to www.lifeline.gov. A leading cellular communications company has provided us with information on their services. 2010 News

  • HAMC is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Executive Director, Gloria Munoz, as of 12/20/2010. Gloria had previously served on the HAMC Board of Commissioners and has extensive experience in HUD, community housing and neighborhood redevelopment issues in Arizona.

  • The 2010 HAMC Annual Report newsletter presents a summary of activities and accomplishments for the past year. It may be viewed here.
    HAMC is proud to announce that it has been awarded $240,000 in grant funds under HUD's Resident Self-Service (ROSS) program. This grant, which links public housing assistance with public and private resources, aims to enable families increase earned income and reduce the need for financial assistance. “The funding provides a wonderful resource to our residents to attain their goals in becoming self-sufficient, support themselves and their children” commented Gloria Munoz, HAMC Executive Director. 2009 News

  •  HAMC has begun work on residential redevelopment in Buckeye, Goodyear and El Mirage with funding provided under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP). This program will purchase and modernize homes to include energy efficiency, sustainability and visitibility (ESV) features. These homes will then be sold at below market cost to qualified buyers that meet NSP guidelines. For more information go to our NSP Announcements page. (5/15/2009)
  •   Announcement: HAMC has posted documents with Program standards and Risk Management Guidelines for companies participating in NSP-funded projects. For more information go to the NSP Announcements page. (6/11/2009)        
  •   NSP2 Application Submitted. HAMC and partners have submitted an application to HUD for funding under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA) for the redevelopment of the Holiday Park property. For more information go to the NSP Announcements page.      
  •   The Housing Authority of Maricopa County's 2009 Annual Agency Plan is available for review. This plan is required by HUD and serves as a comprehensive guide to Public Housing Agency (PHA) policies, programs, operations, and strategies for meeting local housing needs and goals. A general meeting will be held at 12:00 PM on April 14, 2009, at 2024 N. 7th Street, Suite 201 for discussion and comments. Comments may also be submitted via email to c.treloar@maricopahousing.org prior to April 14, 2009.   •   HAMC announces the ESV project for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. NSP is a federal grant intended to reduce the number of foreclosed homes in targeted communities. HAMC has applied to be a sub-recipient to Maricopa County for up to $8.7M to buy, rehab and sell homes in Buckeye, El Mirage and Goodyear. As part of the rehab program the ESV action items will be incorporated into each home. Please watch this site for information on when HAMC will be awarded the grant and can begin interviewing potential buyers. Click here for details.        
  • Notice: Beginning February 9, 2009, HAMC will adopt a Monday to Thursday schedule for conducting busness with residents, landlords, applicants, suppliers and the general public at all sites. All HAMC offices will be closed to the public on Fridays.        
  •   Attention landlords: Beginning January 30, a detailed listing of Housing Assistance Payments for all vouchers will be available online through our new HAP payment module on this site. Go to the HAP module page to register and use this tool. For more information, see the notice enclosed with the January HAP checks (available here). We strongly encourage all landlords to signup for direct deposits and use the HAP information module.        
  • Notice to landlords: Effective 3/1/2009 HAMC will adjust Payment Standards for Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) to reflect current market rents. For more information and new rental values, see our landlord page in the FAQ section here.        
  • Have a comment, suggestion or complaint? Use our new online FEEDBACK system. Your input is greatly appreciated.        
  • Mr. Doug Lingner has accepted the position of HAMC Executive Director. Doug was a Phoenix City Councilman and served on the Housing Subcommittee for 12 years, 9 of them as Chair, working with Management and many people involved in Housing. Doug is an advocate for and believer in the changes public housing makes in people’s lives; and believes Housing is about people…the people we serve, the employees that are on-site every day, the site managers, case managers, maintenance staff, and administrators.        
  • The Board of Commissioners has appointed Karen Mofford to Deputy Director of the Housing Authority of Maricopa County. Karen will assist the Executive Director with managing overall performance and productivity, and managing day-to-day operations of HAMC’s Accounting, Purchasing and IT departments, and overseeing the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Section 8 and Public Housing operations.

  •   As of June 30, Mr. Alphonso Patrick has resigned as Executive Director to pursue other interests. HAMC expresses its gratitude for the years of dedicated service to the Housing Authority and wishes him good luck in his new position. Mr. Bill Scalzo, who has worked closely with HAMC in the past as a Director at Maricopa County, has been appointed as Interim Executive Director.      
  •   Note: While reviewing files, an old 25-page typed document containing the History of the Housing Authority of Maricopa County was found. Because of its historical content, it was decided to scan and post that document to this website. It is a narrative summary of the minutes of the Board of Commissioners from 1942 until 1991, written by some unknown staff member almost 20 years ago.  
  •   The HAMC announces an Energy Conservation property improvement and modernization program at its Norton Circle community in Avondale, AZ. [more]        
  • The HAMC Five Year Plan for Fiscal Years 2005 - 2009 (52 pages) has been approved and is available for viewing at our Main Office.        
  • The Housing Choice Voucher Administrative Plan (34 pages) has been submitted to HUD and is available for viewing at our Main Office.
